Free “Empower Program” helps adults transition back to school

A free program designed to help adult learners come back to school is being offered through Linn-Benton Community College.

The new program, called “Empower,” is a strength-based, supportive learning program to help adults transition into LBCC and be successful in college.

The program aims to help adult learners realize their potential, develop a network of college and community support, and become empowered in lifelong success in college, professional and personal development.

Program classes are free and focus on college and career readiness, self-development, self-assessment, goal-setting and planning, support network development, and overall well-being.

Classes meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and include computer skills, time management, communication skills, critical thinking skills, employment skills, learning styles, how to identify your strengths and more.

Oregon Construction Contractors Board Education (CCB) will be offered through the Small Business Development Center at Linn-Benton Community College. This five session course will meet on April 22, 29, May 6, 13, and 20 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., on the LBCC Albany campus, Calapooia Center room CC-213. The course is required for CCB licensing as part of the education requirement before taking the State of Oregon CCB exam. LBCC Holds Annual Career Fair

A free Career Fair will be held at Linn‑Benton Community College Career Thursday, April 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Activities Center gym, Albany campus, 6500 Pacific Blvd. S.W. More than 50 businesses, industries and government agencies will provide information on careers and employment opportunities. College advisors will available to answer questions on career and technical training programs. Be prepared to ask questions, distribute your resume and complete applications. For sample interview questions and tips, check out the college web site at www.linnbenton.edu/go/career-fair and click “Job Seeker Links.” Employment, training and family needs agencies will be on hand to inform job seekers about their services. Community Art classes in Albany, Corvallis, and Lebanon

A variety of art classes, including a few new ones, are being offered through LBCC Community Education starting March 28. In the new class “Art & Etsy,” learn to polish your craft and sell your art. Bring your own product to polish up, or bring to life a new creation. Immerse yourself in product design and then create a catchy shop name and an inviting online presence. This one-day class meets Thursday, April 7 from 1 to 3:50 p.m. at the LBCC Lebanon Center, 44 Industrial Way, and Friday, April 15 from 1 to 3:50 p.m. at the LBCC Benton Center, 757 Polk Ave, Corvallis, and Saturday, April 16 from 10 to 12:50 p.m. at the LBCC Albany Campus, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW. Cost is $39. The new class “Mosaic Mashup” helps you create a mosaic masterpiece from recycled materials. Incorporate paper, glass tiles, ceramic tiles, and a wide selection of other materials.
